Clintonville wrestlers took fourth place at the Viking Invitational tournament at Winnebago Lutheran Academy on Saturday, with four individual wrestlers ascending the podium by day’s end. At such a tournament, each weight class may have a varying number of competitors as not every team has a wrestler in every weight class, just like the Truckers.
At 106, Ben Cotherman took 5th place out of 6 wresters. Cole Cotherman took the podium for 3rd place (out of 6) at 120 pounds. Bridget Streicher competed at 126 pound, taking 4th place (out of 6). Tim Jerabek went 3-2 on the day, garnering 5th place (out of 10) in the 138 bracket. Lacey Jung battled her way to a 8th place finish at the 145 class (out of 10). Shayne Collar defeated every opponent he faced, dominating the 160 pound bracket (8 man). Jason Bilek competed at 170, gaining valuble experience at the varsity level. At 195 pounds, Chase Poppe only lost one match, and thereby earned a second place finish (6 man bracket). Finally, Chase Jung went 3-2, good enough for a 3rd place finish at 220 (8 man bracket).
Considering that there are fourteen weight classes and only nine were covered by Trucker wrestlers, it was indeed a good showing. Come out and watch your Truckers at the Holiday Classic Invitational Tournament at Shawano Community High School next Saturday, December 20.
