The Clintonville Police Department was involved in a vehicle pursuit and foot chase at 3:10 AM on Saturday, November 14th, resulting in the arrest of a 19 year old male from rural Bear Creek. Officer Matthew Wright located and attempted to stop a suspected hit and run vehicle after beingnotified of a stop sign being struck on East Madison and Maize Street. The operator of the 1998 GMC pickup truck was driving recklessly with no rear tire on one side of the vehicle. After a brief pursuit, the suspect crashed his vehicle into some shrubbery on Flora Way and fled on foot. Officer Wright pursued the driver on foot and took him into custody after a brief scuffle. Officer Wright received minor injuries during the incident but was able to continue his duties.The 19 year old Bear Creek man was charged with Operating While Intoxicated, Operating with a Prohibited Alcohol Content, Hit and Run, Endangering Safety by Reckless Driving, Operating Left of Center Line, Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign, Failure to Maintain Vehicle Control, Eluding an Officer, Underage Possession and Consumption of Alcohol, Display of Power, and Resisting an Officer. Six (6) additional citations for Hit & Run to property Adjacent to a Highway were issued after further investigation revealed that the suspect intentionally struck additional street signs in the City. The suspect was transported to the Waupaca County Jail. This matter is still under investigation and further charges may be forthcoming.
On Saturday, November 14th at 9:42 PM, Police responded to a report of an intoxicated man disturbing his neighbor and reportedly threatening that he had a gun on East 14th Street. Officers responded and while questioning the intoxicated suspect, Sgt. Chris Wendorf noticed a handgun in a holster on the man’s waste under his jacket. After Sgt. Wendorf instructed the man to place his hands in the air, he instead reached down and placed his hand on his weapon. Sgt. Wendorf drew his weapon and the suspect removed his hand from his weapon. Police seized a 40 caliber semi-automatic pistol from the suspect. The intoxicated male was taken into custody and jailed on charges of Armed While Intoxicated, Disorderly Conduct, and Carrying a Concealed Weapon without a Permit. He was transported to the Waupaca County Jail pending formal charges.
