Incident Description: Green Bay Metro Fire Department responded for reports of a working structure fire at Windows of Wisconsin on Velp Ave. Windows of Wisconsin is a local window manufacturer and retailer. First arriving units found heavy fire showing on the backside of a one story commercial/manufacturing building. Due to the volume of fire, the fire was fought defensively and took several hours to bring under control. The building’s roof partially collapsed during the fire. Crews remain on scene extinguishing hotspots.
Cause of Fire: Under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office
Origin of Fire: Manufacturing area of the business
Estimated Dollar Loss: $300,000 (preliminary)
Number of People Displaced: Business will be closed for some time.
Additional Information: Due to the volume of fire and the extreme weather with temperatures below zero and wind chills approaching -20; a MABAS (Mutual Aid Box Alarm System) 2nd Box Alarm was called for manpower rotation. Units from Howard, Ashwaubenon, DePere, Lawrence, Suamico, Ledgeview and the Salvation Army all assisted.
